Mobile data innovation for ‘Just-in-Time’ Supply Chain Management
With ever-increasing global competition, manufacturers and distributors are constantly looking for ways of driving down costs and improving efficiency within the supply chain. Industrial consumables distributor, Anixter Automotive, has invested in mobile technology from Impact Applications that will help it work towards that goal.
A web-based barcode scanning system from Impact Applications has enabled Anixter Automotive to achieve significant cost savings by improving the efficiency of its mobile workforce and its ‘just-in-time’ stock control systems across the supply chain. It enables real-time communication between mobile workers on site at client factories and the back-office warehouse management system, improving the delivery of stock to clients whilst cutting costs out of their communications infrastructure. It has ensured uninterrupted production at sites such as Aston Martin, Jaguar, Landrover, JCB and others since it first went live in October 2005.
Steve Smith, Project Manager at Anixter Automotive, explains, "The lack of real time communication between our line feeders and the back office was a major concern for us. We were constrained by the need for our mobile workers to stop and download the information they had gathered. By achieving greater accuracy in our ‘just-in-time’ delivery systems, we have dramatically reduced our stock levels but at the same time can be confident that production lines will not come to a stop.
